Ndjamena Entry Requirements

Ndjamena Entry Requirements

Visa, immigration, and customs information

Important Notice Entry requirements can change at any time. Always verify current requirements with official government sources before traveling.
Ndjamena's only international gateway is Hassan Djamous International Airport (NDJ). Every passenger passes through the same sequence: immigration desk, baggage belt, secondary customs scan, single exit hall. Expect long lines when the late-evening European flights land. Bring the exact papers listed below so officials cannot invent extra forms. They start with your yellow-fever certificate, flip to your visa, then demand proof of onward tickets before the entry stamp lands. Guard the small white slip they hand back, hotels in Ndjamena often ask for it at reception. Most travellers must secure a visa ahead of time. Only a handful of African and Middle-East passports slip through visa-free. Nationals eligible for eVisa must file at least 72 hours before the flight to Ndjamena. Approval arrives as a PDF you must print. Transit passengers staying air-side for under 24 h skip the visa. But Ndjamena gives little beyond the gate and Ndjamena hotels sit outside security, so plan layovers with care. Bring US-dollar or euro cash for visa-on-arrival fees if that is your category. The airport ATMs are often broken. On departure, exit stamps are matched to immigration records, confirm the dates or pay an overstay fine at the airport bank desk.
